Selected in Campus but missing placement criteria – What to do?

Here is the story of one of the engineering candidate who was selected in Campus during 6th semester but was missing placement criteria by the end of course. Worried over whether he will be allowed to join – he has written this:

I got placed in L&T infotech on 10th april 2007 in maharashtra. i was in 6th sem when they conducted pool campus.total 1200 students were present that time and took 80 out of it.

now i have completed B.E. (MECH) and also have got their e mail saying joining date will be 30th december. I attended PRAVESH in FEB 2008. But now I am worried cos i am violating their 2 criterions!

my over all percentage throughout all 8sem of engineering is 58.85% :( and they asking for 60 % :( next they saying not more than four backlogs during whole engineering …i have more than four backlogs :( but i want to tell u,, all these backlogs were even before selection ! means i had backlogs in first 4 sem only. and for 5th,,6th,,7th,, and 8th sem i dont have any backlog.

As i told my selection is when i was in 6th sem…. at that time they selected me…. but now what to do???

Is a backlog considered a “backlog” even if it is in ODD semmester? I mean here in maharashtra, result is printed only on marksheets of EVEN Semester thats result of 1st year on marks sheet of 2ND sem. Result of second year on marks sheet of 4TH sem. i hope u got my point. And i believe same is the practice all over india. So …. will a backlog be counted if i had it in ODD sem??? cos result is considered only in EVEN sem na??

Also I want to mention that at time of selection during 6th sem,, criterion was 55% till 5sem. which i was satisfying. but now …. ufffff……. im missing 1.15% to complete 60% overall :( I am in very big tension guys ;( will they allow me to enter?

Expert’s Answer:

Well folks most of the companies have a fixed placement norm which they will not usually violate for fresher placements. As you have indicated that you are selected despite not meeting the criteria – there is doubt if you have disclosed to comapny that you have backlog. Normally the companies ask college to give candidate’s list after screening on these critera and make this clear to them that the offer is contingent on meeting these criteria.

When you will be asked to join they will ask you for all marksheets and if a marksheet is mentioned as backlog they you are out. If the marksheets are issues annually and you do not have backlog – you are in.

As to consolidated percentage – you can not do anything and by the yardstick you are out.
