In the mid-1950s from his garage in Berkeley, California, a young graduate student named Donald E. Bently perfected a transistorized design for a new type of distance-measuring device – an eddy current proximity transducer. It wasn’t long before Bently’s transducer found its ideal application – inside machinery – where it could observe the vibration and position characteristics that are such important indicators of machinery condition.
As the company grew, it moved to its present location of Minden, Nevada, in 1961 and was renamed from Bently Scientific to Bently Nevada. It remained privately held by Mr. Bently until January, 2002, when the company was purchased by GE Power Systems.
Bently Nevada’s innovations have literally revolutionized the way machinery is instrumented, protected, diagnosed, and managed.
